OPENING OFFERING TALKING POSTER
I drew this image when we were developing the video to project behind me during this song in my one woman show "Hey Bitch--a Musical Journey to Planet Bitch." Ian (my projection collaborator) came over and clamped a camera to my drawing desk. The process with all of my drawings is: first, I sketch it in pencil, then once it's all just how i like it, i Ink it, then color it. With this, I snapped a pic with every stroke, so he could build a video of the drawing, that appears before our eyes--line by line.
When I wrote the poem for this, I was traveling in Bulgaria. I was so blown away by a place that was not capitalist. It changed me. I woke up one morning from a dream, and wrote this poem. In our play, this moment marks when in childhood i finally got glasses. I started to name my obscured or magical vision. I started to see the world in a whole new way. Name it with possibilities. See other 'girls like me.' Capitalism wants to divide us. But our hearts ultimately operate from unity.
I sold this drawing, but before I did I made this poster. To forever mark our possibilities.
